News & Announcements March 28th

1. ICYMI: For those who missed Amby Busby’s presentation “Kensington Talks About Race” see here: Slide Deck  / Parent Handout - Talking Pointshttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1IXUBNx3n0Opm2A4bmPhenGy68_FsDOYv/view

We also encourage you to read the full message sent out by Principal Jordan on Monday regarding racism and anti-racism at Kensington. If you are interested in engaging in a deeper conversation about racism and anti-racism at Kensington please add your name to this form Community Anti-Racist Work at Kensingtonhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSePEOmmO-Nkxd8oGCmXTqTmn1Cw_ryAbjVFR9aml1u1aDBlug/viewform?pli=1

2. YEARBOOK COVER ART CALL: We are collecting as many student self-portraits as possible for the yearbook cover. It would be great if they could be drawn on 3x5 or 4x6 paper for scanning purposes, mainly face ones (no full body). Use school colors (blue & yellow) if possible; not mandatory. They will be assembled into an awesome collage. Email digitally to lindapcleary@gmail.com or drop off drawings to the front office.

3. YEARBOOK KEF CLASS PHOTOS: Looking for KEF Class Yearbook Pictures - if you are volunteering in a KEF Class, please snap a few photos and submit them to either your yearbook room parent or to Linda Cleary <lindapcleary@gmail.com>, our yearbook coordinator. We need all pictures by April 15. Thanks!

4. READ-A-THON PRIZES!!!  Congratulations to all the Hilltop students and families who participated in the 2024 Read-a-thon. You helped raise over $31,000! Please see the attached flyer to view individual and class prize winners. Well done!

5. CARNIVAL: Stay tuned for Carnival announcements in upcoming weeks!

6. TRAFFIC SURVEY: Please fill this out to provide information to the City of El Cerrito as it is relevant for any families whose kids walk along the Arlington to school every day.  A strong response may help us get a safer route to school for kids on the side of town!

7. Colusa Circle 5K: Fun Run for a Good Cause:  Save the date for the upcoming Colusa Circle 5K! On Saturday, April 13th, join Zip Code East Bay for their 6th annual community fun run. It’s open to participants of all ages and abilities and will happen rain or shine. Racers will start in Colusa Circle at 8am and follow the sidewalk course as it leads through Kensington and El Cerrito. All funds raised will support Growing Together and their garden program at El Cerrito High School. Their mission involves improving the health and sustainability of more than 30 local school communities through initiatives such as green schoolyards, youth environmental education, tree planting, and increasing fresh food access.

***Register early for a discounted rate at ColusaCircle5k.org.

***Interested in volunteering instead? Email hello@zipcodeeastbay.com.
