FAQ:
VOLUNTEER FAQ
What can I volunteer for at Kensington Hilltop?
What can’t you volunteer for?! There are so many to help out, both on campus and behind the scenes, and thanks for your interest! Check out this website to learn more about our different parent groups and the ways family members can get involved with their efforts. Also, check in with your child/ren’s teacher, who may have volunteer opportunities for parents during the school day. Often, school-day volunteering involves supporting kids in their KEF classes or helping supervise the lunch and recess play as a yard duty volunteer, but there are also options to do things like garden with your child/ren’s class/es, drive and chaperone kids on field trips, or provide supplies and support for holiday parties or classroom events. You’ll find sign-up information for some of these opportunities on this website, but will also be hearing from our parent groups, volunteer coordinators, room parents, and teachers throughout the year with specific requests and can sign up then!
We also need folks to fill volunteer roles that take place outside of school hours! Our parent groups rely on dedicated volunteers who organize fundraisers (including KEF’s amazing Garden Party, PTA and Auxiliary’s much-beloved Carnival, Movie Nights, Read-A-Thon, and many more) balance budgets, manage communication, plan community events, help maintain and beautify our campus, or prepare food for teacher luncheons and community meal trains. Again, you’ll find information about how to sign up for some of these opportunities here on the website and you will hear more from our parent group leaders as the need arises.
What do I need to do to become a Volunteer?
See our Apply to Volunteer page for the steps to become a badged volunteer through the school district. Once you have been approved and have your badge, you’ll need to wear it every time you volunteer on campus during school hours. You’ll also need to stop by the front office when you arrive to volunteer and sign your name on the Volunteer/Visitor clipboard.
What if I forget my badge?
When you sign in, temporary visitor stickers will be behind the sign-in sheets on the Volunteer/Visitor clipboard. Simply fill one out and wear it the whole time you’re volunteering.
What if the district fingerprinted me but I don’t have my physical badge yet? Can I volunteer in the meantime?
Check-in with Kim Paige, our Secretary, who will have an email record of your clearance to participate as a volunteer on campus. If she has received that email, you can use a temporary visitor sticker (see above, What if I forget my badge?) until your physical badge arrives.
Can I replace a lost Volunteer Badge?
Yes! See our Apply to Volunteer page for more details.
I volunteered for Yard Duty - what are my responsibilities?
Thank you! See these helpful tip sheets for more information.
If I become a PTA member, am I required to go to meetings?
No! Our fall membership drive is one of the best ways to support the PTA and Auxiliary without any time requirement (though you are always welcome).
I see that events like Carnival and the Garden Party have sponsors. I run/work for/know a great business that would love to sponsor one of those events. How can I find out more information about sponsorship?
Wonderful! We are always looking for more sponsors and supporters! For Carnival sponsorship, email khsptapresident@gmail.com , and for Garden Party sponsorship, email gardenparty@kensingtoneducationfoundation.org.
