Volunteer Opportunities

With the exception of its teachers, the Kensington Education Foundation is operated entirely by volunteers. As such, KEF relies on members of the Kensington Hilltop parent community to help carry out its mission to support student learning. There are a number of ways for parents and community members to get involved:

In-Class Helper – Many of our classroom teachers appreciate having a parent volunteer (sometimes two) on hand in the classroom to help with KEF enrichment lessons. Spending time in your child’s class environment is a wonderful way to see them interact with their classmates, get to know faces and names, and be involved in the learning process. It’s also fun! Your classroom’s Room Parent circulates a spreadsheet with your room’s KEF class schedule, inviting parents and guardians to volunteer. Sign up anytime and come once a month, once a week, or every day!

Garden Party – Garden Party is one of KEF’s largest fundraising events and volunteer opportunities abound: help to plan the event, host a related party, identify sponsors, and support onsite day-of activities. Whether you’re looking to lead a particular aspect of the event, or just bartend for an hour or two that evening, we’d love your assistance!

Fundraising & Projects – We are always looking for volunteers to help with other fundraising and KEF projects, from the spring fundraiser to STEAM Night! For the spring fundraiser, parent volunteers can assist with graphic design, printing materials, and prize procurement and fulfillment.

Running Club – Running Club occurs before school in the lower yard. Volunteers are always needed to help track laps and hand out badges when milestones are met.

Board Member – The KEF Board governs the organization’s operations, including budget oversight and employment of our KEF teachers.  Each member of the KEF Board is ultimately expected to play a leadership role in a committee or focus area.  Members of KEF’s Board meet monthly during the school year. Joining the Board provides the opportunity to be involved in discussions and decision-making about go-forward funding and programs.

Members with any of the below skill sets are particularly helpful for the Board:

  • Non-profit Board governance

  • Fundraising

  • Event planning

  • Website/database skills

  • Dads in general

  • Marketing/communications

  • Graphic design

  • HR expertise

  • Project management

  • Background in education and/or professional development

  • Finance/accounting

  • Legal expertise
